The Oscars are back, and the excitement is palpable! But this year's nominations have a twist that's causing a stir in the film industry.
The 2026 Oscar nominations are out, and it's a star-studded affair with some surprising additions. The Academy has introduced a new category for Best Casting, the first new category since 2002, and it's already sparking conversations. But here's where it gets controversial: the Academy is making it harder for members to vote in categories they haven't fully engaged with, tracking their viewing habits and requiring forms for films watched outside the Academy's platform.
The announcement was made by Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman, who revealed the nominees in 24 categories. Film enthusiasts can catch the action live on ABC's Good Morning America or stream it on various platforms. The Oscars will be hosted by the hilarious Conan O'Brien, who is returning for the second year.
Last year's big winner was the Sean Baker film, Anora, which took home five awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress. This year, the Best Picture category is packed with diverse and compelling films, including Bugonia, Hamnet, and Sinners.
