A major lorry fire on the A2 in Kent has resulted in significant delays, with lanes one, two, and three of the four westbound lanes currently closed. The fire, which occurred on Thursday morning (February 19), has caused an unknown amount of damage, with no injuries reported. Kent Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene, deploying five fire engines and a bulk water carrier to extinguish the blaze using main jets. The technical rescue unit also attended, using a telehandler to remove and cool the contents of the vehicle.
Traffic cameras along the A2 have captured the long queues and severe delays, with congestion extending six miles. National Highways predicts that delays will persist until midday, but this is subject to change. The lane closure is affecting the A2 between B255 (Bean) and M25/A282 (Darenth).
