Did You Know You've Been Saying Ranger Suárez's Name Wrong All This Time?
The Red Sox have officially signed Ranger Suárez, and the left-hander made his debut at Fenway Park on Wednesday. Suárez, who was introduced to the Boston press, showcased his new No. 55 jersey. During the press conference, Suárez shared an interesting fact about his name pronunciation.
According to Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald, Suárez wanted to clarify that his name is actually pronounced "Rahn-her." However, he is content with people pronouncing it in the English way, which is "Ranger."
This pronunciation difference has been a point of confusion for eight years, since Suárez's time in Philadelphia. Suárez, through the Red Sox interpreter, Davezon Pérez, confirmed that he is comfortable with either pronunciation. He stated, "Ranger is how most people do, so I'm comfortable with either."
Suárez's contract with the Red Sox is reportedly worth $130 million for the next five years. The Phillies will undoubtedly miss his presence on the mound and in the clubhouse. You can watch Suárez's full Red Sox introduction on YouTube.
